ramp

Hello,

I have recently had to purchase a wheelchair to use outside but am unable to get it in and out the 2 steps at my front door. I would like to get a ramp but am not sure what is best.

Thank you for your question. This can be difficult to answer without having seen your front door and steps, and space available.
Portable ramps are an option if you are going to have someone going out with you. They can then put the ramp down over the steps, assist you in your wheelchair to use the ramp and then remove and put it back inside while you are out. they come in lengths from just under 1 metre to around 2.5 metres. The longer they are, the heavier they are to pick up.
If you want to be fully independent, then a more permanent option needs to be considered. This is not always possible and would require further assessment. A gradient of at least 1:12 is recommended so it is not too steep to propel yourself up. There is not always enough space to achieve this. Ramps can be made from wood, metal or concrete. A wooden one is likely to wear much easier with the weather. The metal ramps are good as they are semi permanent and can be easily removed in the future if no longer required. A concrete one is there for life. Please do not hesitate to contact me for further information or a non obligation discussion to provide an assessment and recommendations.
