Hi, wasn't sure if this was the right place to put this but I just found your article on helping the lady into the bath. Thankyou for the information but I was just wondering how I would go about buying the right thing? I've had a look but wasn't sure what was best.
Bathing
Hello, thank you for your question. There are a number of options to assist a person to access their bath. If there is a shower over the bath, a bath board or swivel bather can assist. The board would go across the top of the bath. The person would sit on it and swing their legs over to avoid stepping over the edge of the bath. They could then remain sitting on it and hold the shower to wash. Grab rails can be fitted to the walls if required if the person feels they need more support.
A swivel bather is a seat which turns. This also goes across the top of the bath. A person would sit on it and then push a lever down to enable to seat to swivel and lift their legs over the bath. They would then shower in the same way as above.
If there is no shower in place, a bath lift may be suitable. I would recommend the Aqua Joy premier plus bath lift although there a lots on the market. This is a seat that runs off a battery and goes up and down in the bath. The person using it would transfer onto it in the same way as above with the bathboard. Once sitting on it, press a button on a hand control and it will lower the seat down into the bottom of the bath. Once the person has finished bathing, press the button to raise the seat back to the level of the edge of the bath to transfer off it.
An inflatable cushion for the bath is also available which allows the person to get a bit lower in the bath. The person using it must have good seating balance and trunk control to sit on it as it lowers and raises. This works off a compressor that pumps air into it to raise it and deflates to lower it.
I hope this information is useful, please feel free to ask further questions if required.
